Couples ask venues the same questions again and again. Most of them come before anyone books a viewing. If your website and your first reply answer them well, more of the right couples come to look round, and fewer emails go back and forth.
Below are 30 questions couples ask wedding venues, grouped the way a couple tends to think. Next to each one is what a good answer includes. Use the list to check your website, your brochure and your enquiry replies.
Short answer: Before booking a viewing, couples want to know if their date is free, what it costs, how many guests fit, whether they can marry on site, how food and drink work, and where guests can stay. Put those answers on your website and in your first reply.
Why these answers matter before the viewing
Couples are choosy about where they visit. In the UK 2026 Wedding Industry Report from WeddingDates, 73% of couples who had booked viewed 3 venues or fewer, and nearly 1 in 4 visited only 1. The same report found that 69% of couples who enquired contacted 5 venues or fewer. So every enquiry counts.
Price is the big one. In the Bridebook UK Wedding Report 2025, 59% of couples said they would not contact a venue if pricing was not available online (Bridebook UK Wedding Report). If your prices are hidden, many couples will never ask the other 29 questions.
The 30 questions
Date and availability
- Is our date free? Say yes or no, then offer the nearest free dates if it is taken.
- Which dates do you have left next year? A short list of open Saturdays, plus Fridays and Sundays, saves several emails.
- Do you hold a date while we decide? Say whether you offer a provisional hold, how long it lasts and what ends it.
- Do you do midweek or winter weddings, and are they cheaper? If your prices change by day or season, say so plainly.
- How many weddings do you host on one day? Couples want to know if the venue is theirs alone.
Price and what is included
- How much is venue hire? Give a price or a clear range. Couples dislike hunting for it (see below).
- What does the hire fee include? Rooms, grounds, furniture, staff, set up, clear down, the bridal suite.
- Is VAT included? State it next to every price.
- Is there a minimum spend or minimum guest number? Say when it applies, for example on peak Saturdays.
- How much is the deposit and when is the rest due? Give the deposit, the payment stages and the final due date.
- What happens if we need to cancel or move the date? Point to your terms and explain them in one or two sentences.
Numbers and spaces
- How many guests can you seat for the ceremony and the meal? Give separate figures for the ceremony, the wedding breakfast and the evening.
- What is the smallest wedding you take? Small weddings and elopements are a common search. Say if you welcome them.
- Where do drinks and photos happen? Describe the spaces in the order the day runs.
- What happens if it rains? Explain your wet weather plan and when you make the call.
The ceremony
- Can we marry on site? Say whether you are approved for civil ceremonies and in which spaces. In England and Wales a civil ceremony must take place at a register office or a venue approved by the local council, with a registrar present (GOV.UK).
- Do you book the registrar or do we? Couples can often book the registrar themselves, or the venue may arrange it. Say which you do.
- Can we have an outdoor ceremony? If yes, say which months and how many guests the outdoor space holds.
Food and drink
- Do you do the catering or can we choose our own? In house, an approved list, or free choice. Couples ask this early.
- Can you cater for dietary needs? Say how you handle allergies and special diets, and who to talk to.
- Do we get a tasting? Say when it happens and whether it is included.
- Can we bring our own drink, and is there corkage? State your policy and any charge.
- What time does the bar close and when must guests leave? Give the bar close time and the finish time.
Stay, travel and suppliers
- Is there accommodation on site or nearby? Say how many guests you can sleep and point to local options.
- Where do guests park, and is there step free access? Give parking numbers, access details and anything about lifts or ramps.
- Is there a bridal suite or a room to get ready in? Say how many people it holds and what time it opens.
- Are there supplier rules we should know about? Approved lists, noise limits, candles, confetti, drones.
Viewings and booking
- Can we come and look round, and when? Give your viewing days and times, and any open days.
- Do you have an open day coming up? Give the next date and how to register.
- Who will we deal with from enquiry to the day? Name your coordinator if you can.

How to use this list
Check your website first. Go through the 30 questions and mark each one as answered on your site, answered in your brochure, or not answered anywhere. The gaps are where your email time goes.
Build a proper FAQ page. Use the couples' own words for the questions. Keep each answer to 2 or 3 sentences, with a link to more detail where needed.
Make your first reply do the work. A reply that confirms the date, gives the price for that date, states the capacity and offers viewing times answers most of this list in one go.
Offer more than one way to book a viewing. In the WeddingDates report, 50% of couples preferred to book a showround by email, 26% through an online calendar and 16% by phone. Offering a booking link alongside email covers most couples.
Where an AI assistant fits
Couples often research in the evening and at weekends, when your team has gone home. An AI assistant on your website can answer these questions at any hour, using only the facts you give it. When a couple is ready, it takes their details and preferred viewing time and sends them to you to confirm.
You can see how that works in our sample conversations from Oakfield Barn, a sample venue we built to show it, or try the demo yourself. For pricing and setup, see AI chatbot for wedding venues. If your website is the problem, see website design for wedding venues.

Frequently asked questions
What do couples ask wedding venues first?
Usually whether their date is free, what it costs and how many guests the venue holds. Those 3 answers decide whether they enquire further.
Should wedding venues show prices on their website?
It helps. In the Bridebook UK Wedding Report 2025, 59% of couples said they would not contact a venue if pricing was not available online. A clear starting price or a range is enough.
How many venues do couples view before booking?
In the WeddingDates UK 2026 Wedding Industry Report, 73% of couples who had booked viewed 3 venues or fewer, and nearly 1 in 4 visited only 1.
Can an AI assistant answer couples' questions?
Yes, if it is set up with your real details. A good one answers from your facts only, says when it does not know, and hands the couple to your team to book a viewing.
